A person who laced sweets with sedative and gave them to youngsters at a youth camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two children both between nine and ten.
The defendant was detained after eight children and one adult experienced illness at the location in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at the judicial center on Friday.
Yet, he refused to admit one particular crime he was accused of, which was involving a nine-year-old child.
The defendant was held in detention prior to a further hearing on late November.
'Treat game'
The prosecutor, handling the case, described the criminal behavior to the court.
She stated his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer program which he managed.
Ruben conducted a "treat game" with the children, the legal counsel explained, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She told the court Ruben had played this game with the boys "over an extended period", and youngsters had previously become sick the following morning.
She explained the defendant had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had worries in recently.
Mrs Prior KC added: "This year his family member had concerns about what was going on, justifiably.
"They resolved" to examine in the defendant's belongings."
The prosecutor stated materials including baby oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were located, and his family member notified the authorities about his worries.
She explained Ruben continued to play the "sweet game" with six children that night - that Saturday - and they were all ill the next day.
"The police had not arrived by that time," she added.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was reviewing the police response of the events.
The prosecutor said the children were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson notified the police once more.
She stated Ruben then played the "treat game" in a room of five minors.
