Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, demons, and sinister influences growing in power within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Warrior Group Introduced
The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of heroes who will separate from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.
This warrior group features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.
That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.
At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might look mismatched, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the team understands precisely where to proceed after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his own means, entering the hidden lair, striking the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.
The antagonist then settled his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the region and warns that it is a nasty place.
- The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the party enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and The healer turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- Teor is marked for death by the family.
This results in them few options but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.
What’s Next?
According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Seekers and Planners groups.
